This remarkable and exceptionally rare original vintage poster, dating back to the 1930s, was issued by British Airways Ltd, a prominent British airline company that operated across Europe from 1935 to 1939. The company emerged from the merger of Spartan Air Lines Ltd, United Airways Ltd, and Hillman's Airways in 1935, marking a significant milestone in aviation history.
Designed by Lee-Elliot, the poster features a striking depiction of a double-propeller airplane in vibrant shades of red and blue. Notably, this same design adorned the leaflet "British Airways - Winter Timetable 1937-8." Lee-Elliot is renowned for creating the iconic Speedbird logo in 1932 for Imperial Airways, a symbol later adopted by BOAC. Even today, "Speedbird" remains the aviation call sign for British Airways.
Presented in very good condition and professionally mounted on linen, the poster has undergone minor restoration, particularly in the upper right corner. While exhibiting light signs of age, it retains its captivating allure and serves as a testament to the golden era of aviation.
